It’s kinda interesting, at least a little bit, that I’ve written these first two “blog” posts in a composition book while bored at work. Memorial Day hasn’t hit, so the days aren’t as packed with people as they will be. I’m not so secretly hoping that writing in this book, on this website, will help keep me sane through the summer months. Working on this website, little by little, has been an interesting journey so far. Not just in the way of mechanics and getting everything to work the way I want (shit, figuring out what I want is hard enough), but also aesthetically. I want it to be nice to look at and interact with, but I do really want it to be accessible to everyone. So I reached out to a friend who does that sort of thing, and she recommended tools and criteria to use. Website construction and accessibility are ongoing efforts. I’ve been trying to think about what to do for the “Speakers, and Screens” part of this potentially sprawling project, for lack of a better term. My initial is just to do a stream of consciousness, kinda like this, and while it might feel redundant, I feel like it couldn’t hurt with the accessibility aspect. Another idea, at least for “Speakers”, is to do it sort of like a travel blog for when I go places. All audio, maybe with pictures on the website that correspond. It could be an interesting way to do travel content.
Quick aside: social media has made me cringe at the word “content”. I still think that it’s the correct word to use when I describe what my idea is, but FUCK does it bother me.
The travel stuff probably won’t be the only thing there. I do want to keep trying to get Podcast III to be like a public access channel. It’d be cool to put demos of music I’m making or that my friends and I made, like a mini radio show. Hell, I could pull out old and unavailable stuff and play the records from front to back like a playthrough of a physical record. Lots of things can happen. The screen aspect, I think, I want to use to learn technical stuff for film. I want to learn to color grade, figure out lighting, and shot composition. Taking a stab at learning and trying stuff with sound design would be a cool crossover between the two aspects. Maybe take a swing at simple short films, tell stories with just visuals, music, and effects. Interesting possibilities there. Moving past all of that, there are so many things I would like to try and learn or go back to and get better at. Tailoring clothes, screen printing, and calligraphy, to name a few. Cyber decks fascinate the hell out of me. Always wanted to try baking bread and gardening. So many things to try, fun to have, knowledge to gain. We’ll see what happens. *concept art from a long-abandoned project by wOlly*
